SantiagoOrtiz

Santiago is a BIST master student from Colombia. He recently finished his bachelor’s degree in physics in Los Andes University where he worked on designing a light sheet microscope incorporating different illumination and detection techniques such as Structured Illumination and Extended Depth of Field. After joining a university optics student chapter and getting a biology minor he discovered the wonderful world of biophotonics. Since then, his interest in learning how light can help unveil some new biological discoveries has only increased.
He joined the Neurophotonics and Mechanical Systems Biology group at ICFO alongside Ruprecht Labs at CRG to study and characterize nuclear mechanics of zebrafish cells having microrheological assays with optical tweezers.
When not in the lab you might find him playing tennis, basketball or any sport he stumbles upon.
