Hey There, Frede

For a few weeks now, Frederic Catala joined NMSB to spearhead the optical trapping activities in the group. Our first goal will be to build an amazing tool and team up with our friends from Impetux! Welcome Frede!

Goodbye Alberto!

Alberto just left the lab to defend his master in Mexico. We wish him the best of luck for this important step and his future career. Good luck, Alberto!

Cell dynamics and neurophotonics retreat

@Vallforners @Montseny with Wieser and Ruprecht labs

We just came back from an exciting weekend at Vallforners from our first annual retreat with the labs of Stefan Wieser (ICFO) and Verena Ruprecht (CRG). We had plenty of sunshine and discussions, but also some serious food teams nourishing us with delicious items from all the corners of europe. Special thanks to Martin Harterink (Utrecht) for flying out there and riding on the dirt roads to present some awesome tubulin work in our favourite nematode.

Optical trapping at ICFO

NMSB @ICFO was awarded an infrastructure grant to build up an advanced imaging and force measurement station in collaboration with the SLN and with strong support from the Barcelona mechanobio community. We are extremely thankful and excited to put this into action and can’t wait to see this dragon flying.

Welcome Martina, Iris and Sara!

Three new students joined us last week. Martina joins Lynn in doind her PhD in neurodegeneration and also received Marie Curie Fellowhip that supports her full time! Iris will work with Ravi to uncover what makes neurons stretchy and Sara will tackle what is left to learn in optogenetics 🙂 Welcome everyone!

New funding from HFSP!

Good news for the lab and the neurophotonics branch. We just got awarded the prestigious HFSP Career Devleopment award and look forward to do some awesome science with it! Stay tuned!

Welcome, Albert

Albert just joined NMSB lab this month to perform his master thesis. He studied human biology and will apply his profound knowledge now on the worm. As usual, we learned a lot from humans to understand the worm better. Welcome Albert!!!

Welcome Marta

This week we have the pleasure to welcome our new postdoc Marta Dies Miracle in the lab. Marta is a systems biologist and she will work out some math about mechanosensation. Welcome in the lab, Marta, and welcome back to Barcelona!!
